Wander in the heart of the city

Strolling through the streets of Oran allows you to take the pulse of this city marked by the French imprint. Rendezvous at the Place du 1er Novembre, from where you can admire the obelisk built in homage to Emir Abdelkader, a XIXth century Algerian religious and military leader. A few hundred meters away from there, you can stroll along the waterfront.


Going up to the Fort of Santa Cruz

Built in the XVIth century on the crest of the Aïdour massif, this fort was a strategic point and the scene of intense fighting between Moors and Ottomans. Located at an altitude of 430 m, the fort of Santa Cruz offers a breathtaking view of the Bay of Oran and, more generally, the Mediterranean Sea.


Refresh yourself in the alleys of the Jardin Citadin Méditerranéen

This municipal park in Oran is popular both with families and athletes: it harbours a fitness path and street vendors. It offers above all a superb view of the Mediterranean and is a welcome haven of coolness in this great Algerian city.


Discover the wild Habibas Islands

Located off the coast of Oran, opposite the beach of Madagh, the Habibas Islands offer the particularity of still being very preserved. They are composed of two main islands and multiple small rocks. Since 2003, they have even been classified as a maritime nature reserve by UNESCO. To get there, you will have to negotiate with a pleasure or fishing boat owner.


Strolling through the alleys of the Bastille market

The Bastille market is one of the largest food markets in Oran: it starts from Place Maghreb and continues all the way to the Spanish consulate. With its colourful stalls, the chatter of the customers and the shouts of the vendors, it gives off a joyful and cosy atmosphere, which it is good to be imbued with.
