Working together for more responsible travel

Rethinking air travel to favour more sustainable choices.

Aviation accounts for nearly 2% of CO2 emissions worldwide. At Lyon airport, we recognise our environmental responsibility. Not only towards you, the travellers passing through our airport and all VINCI Airports, but also towards our planet. That’s why we have been rolling out an ambitious plan in Lyon for several years now, aimed at reducing our carbon footprint to the strict minimum by 2026 and sequestering 100% of our residual emissions*, through low-carbon certified forestry and farming projects. We are also committed to conserving natural resources. Alongside our partners, we are undertaking very concrete actions to promote positive mobility and help transform our industry.

And that is not all. For you, our passengers, we have designed a 5-step checklist, full of ideas to help us achieve more responsible travel. Let’s all change together, so that travel may continue to open our minds, cultivate our awareness of the beauty of the world and motivate us to better preserve it.

Our journey is only just beginning!

Prepare for your trip

When preparing for a trip, there are many ways to reduce our impact.

Informing you about the carbon footprint of our flights
We help you to make an informed choice by displaying the CO2 emissions in our flight search engines.

Giving you some pointers
To limit the impacts of climate change, the recommended annual individual consumption is 2 tonnes of CO2. For reference, a Lyon-Montreal flight corresponds on average to 580 kg of CO2 emitted per person.*
*According to the French National Low-Carbon Strategy

What you can do
What you can do

What you can do

Choose your flight
Two similar flights may generate different quantities of CO2 emissions. Our search engine helps you to choose the least polluting option.

Offset your emissions
We are working closely with airlines to limit their impact and pull together to achieve carbon-free aviation. In the meantime, you can offset your flight’s CO2 emissions by supporting environmental rehabilitation and preservation projects.

Lighten your load
Remember to pack light and rent equipment at your destination. This is more convenient and reduces fuel consumption.

Together, we have a greater impact

Use our search engine which displays the quantity of CO2 emitted per flight and choose the one with the lowest emissions.

Getting to the airport

Getting to the airport

Your choice of mode of transport has an impact, so where possible, choose soft mobility.

Promoting public transport
You can get to Lyon Airport on the Rhônexpress, number 47 bus, or by train. Please think about these options when travelling to the airport.

Supporting electric vehicles
We provide you with electric vehicle charging stations in our car parks.

Encouraging carpooling and car-sharing
We make it easier for you to get around by offering electric or hybrid vehicles for hire to and from the airport, and we provide special assembly points for car-sharing.

Help offset the carbon footprint of your car journey
When you book your car park, we offer to support a reforestation project that contributes to the sequestration of CO2 up to the carbon footprint of your journey.

What you can do
What you can do

What you can do

Opt for soft mobility
To get to the airport, we recommend energy-efficient modes of transport such as public transport, car-sharing or electric cars.

Consider combined transport
Think of combining several modes of transport, or leave your vehicle at a park-and-ride point.

Together, we have a greater impact

With Léo&Go, choose car-sharing to get to and from the airport.

Reducing our water consumption
We make optimum use of our sanitation facilities, we recover rainwater, water from the air conditioning system and water from our fire drills, with the aim of reducing water consumption by 30 %.

Optimising our energy consumption
We adjust inside air temperatures according to the outside temperature: one degree more in summer or less in winter reduces our consumption by 7 %.

Removing plastic and sorting our direct and indirect waste
We have set ourselves a Zero Waste target for 2030

Looking after our green areas to protect nature
The average airport is made up of 70 % green areas, and Lyon Airport definitively banned all plant health products back in 2019.

Promoting the use of biofuels
We provide biofuels at several of our airports to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Encouraging fleet renewal
We are implementing a bonus/surcharge system indexed to CO2 emissions for airlines.

Optimising resources at stopovers
Together with our partners, we optimise the taxiing phase and reduce the time spent by the aircraft between the runway and the parking area to reduce fuel consumption.

Reducing fuel burn on the ground
We connect aircraft to our electricity system so they avoid burning fuel when parked at our airport.

Helping to set up selective waste sorting in cabins
We enable airlines to sort their waste by providing them with specific containers
