Why visit Montenegro?

A small country in the Balkans, Montenegro gained its independence in 2006. Since then, the destination has attracted more and more visitors wanting to discover this little gem of the Adriatic. Between sea and mountains, fjords and authentic villages, Montenegro is full of splendid landscapes and hidden treasures

The Mouths of Kotor, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are in themselves a good reason to visit Montenegro. This 30-kilometer bay is home to several charming small villages that shouldn't be missed. But this small country in the Balkans has much more to offer its visitors: outstanding natural parks, crystal clear lakes, exceptional cuisine and even pretty seaside resorts.

There is something for everyone!

Where and when to go to Montenegro?

Your desires, our recommendations!

Montenegro has a diverse climate. Mediterranean on the Adriatic coast, continental close to Podgorica and very mountainous in the north. If you want to ski, it snows in the mountains between December and March.

Spring is a good season to visit the country despite some rainfall, before the tourists arrive. In summer, it is hot everywhere, and the temperature varies between 21 and 25 degrees. The best time to visit Montenegro and enjoy mild temperatures is between May and September, with the peak tourist period being in July and August.

To see everything Montenegro has to offer, you should allow between one and two weeks. This will allow you to visit the country's iconic sites, from Kotor bay to the Adriatic coast, not forgetting the mountains in the north.

You can discover the seaside resorts of Budva and Sveti Stefan, go for a hike in Durmitor park, sail on the magnificent Lake Skadar or even visit the Kotor Mouths, the country's most iconic and fascinating site. Although Montenegro is a relatively small country, it has plenty to see and do.

If you're looking for idyllic beaches, you're in the right place! Montenegro is full of stretches of fine sand and heavenly beaches. Budva is one of the country's most popular seaside resorts: you can sunbathe on Mogren Beach or Jaz Beach, in a small cove with transparent water.

The small peninsula of Sveti Stefan is also an ideal place to take a dip or lounge on a fine sandy beach in an idyllic setting. For a more natural beach, head to Ludice Beach in Petrovac.

Among Montenegro's unmissable sites, Kotor is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its distinctive old town is great, and you are close to the Kotor Mouths, a must-visit during your trip. Durmitor national park is also a must-see.

Mountain and hiking fans can camp in this incredible national park for several days and discover numerous glacial lakes. When visiting Montenegro, it would be a shame not to make a stop in Podgorica, the country's capital. Distinctive and not too touristy, the city is full of sites of interest and is located not far from Lake Skadar, another of the country's unmissable sites.
