Lufthansa serves Sofia from Lyon, with a stopover at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). The airline offers up to 2 flights per day from Lyon.

The best time to visit Bulgaria is in summer, from June to September. The height of summer can be quite hot in the lowlands. Temperatures are between -6 and 7 degrees in winter and can reach up to 33 degrees in July-August.

Renting a car is the best way to be free during your trip and to choose the itinerary you like the most. Rentals are not expensive, especially if there are several of you travelling. There are several highways throughout the country, ideal for touring the whole country. An international driving licence is highly recommended.

Buses are also available between Bulgarian cities and with the capitals of neighbouring countries. The density of the network and the frequency of connections make the bus the best means of public transport in the country.
