Looking for an exciting change of scene? Discover Bangkok!
Fly to Bangkok and immerse yourself in this supercharged megapolis. Known as the Venice of the East, Bangkok is an essential stop-off on any trip to Southeast Asia. The Thai capital is a blend of tradition and modernity. Here, temples stand alongside shopping centres and there are many activities on offer.
Try the street food
Street food is part of Bangkok’s culture. You will find stands on every street corner. Menus include soups, fried rice, skewered food, Pad Thai, fresh fruit, and much more. For just a few bahts, you can enjoy inexpensive, tasty cuisine and get your teeth into urban life while sharing a moment with the locals.
Relax with a thaï massage
After all your outings, you will definitely need some relaxation. Go to one of the city’s many massage parlours and experience an invigorating traditional Thai massage. Influenced by Buddhism, the Thai massage incorporates elements of both yoga and meditation. This massage helps to relax muscles and relieve sleep disorders and nervous tension.
Take a tuk-tuk
These small customised vehicles are a real institution in Bangkok. They are fun to take and form part of the true Thai adventure. A cross between a van and a moped, tuk-tuks move at lightning speed as they zig-zag through the city’s dense traffic. Hold on tight and enjoy the picturesque ride aboard this cheap and highly practical means of transport.
Stroll through the temples
Bangkok, like the rest of Thailand, is home to a huge number of Buddhist temples (almost 400) that are all unique. Do not leave without visiting the unmissable temples of Wat Po (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald) and Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). Remember to follow the required dress code when visiting the temples !
Bangkok is home to several huge, ultra-modern shopping centres such as MBK, Central World Plaza, Terminal 21 and Siam Paragon. If you are looking for authenticity, go to Chatuchak market, the largest market in Thailand. You will find everything there (souvenirs, clothes, jewellery, gadgets and more). A good way to sharpen your bargaining skills, which is a must in Thailand !

From Bangkok to Chiang Rai
" An incredible discovery"
Along the Burmese border from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, I was lucky enough to explore the wildest parts of the country in my 4x4. I hadn’t prepared anything in advance, I just wanted to discover an authentic corner of Thailand. Travelling at a steady 35km/h, I probably hadn’t adequately anticipated how winding and dilapidated the roads would be. Despite the technical issues—a battery to change, the roof rack welding coming apart, etc.—nothing could get me down. Every day was one incredible discovery after another !
