Dive into the world of comics before you fly away...

From June 3 to August 9, 2022 until the end of July, Lyon Airport will host an exhibition on comics and aviation entitled "Comics Take Flight", organized by VINCI Airports and the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l'Image.

Visitors will admire the works around five themes exposing the way comics have taken up the theme of aviation and flying objects through time:

  1. The fascination for the early days of aviation
  2. Air battles and war aviation, a genre in its own right
  3. The myth of the great aviators
  4. The airplane enters our daily life
  5. Flying objects: fantasy and science fiction

To discover: four large open books that you can devour before your flight!

So, ready to take-off?

Comics and aviation: a history linked in time and dreams

Every year, 78 million copies of comics are bought by nearly 8 million French readers, making this genre one of the most popular. Appeared in the 19th century, comics became popular a century later.

It was at the same time that aviation made its arrival after years of research, thanks to the Lumière brothers.

It is therefore natural that the two sectors joined forces to tell the story and make readers dream. For if there is one dream that children and adults have shared for thousands of years, it is to fly.

Comics have been there from the beginning to witness the evolution of failures, successes and dreams in the world of aviation.

Today, we invite you to the festival "The comic book takes off!" to take off into the world of comics and aviation.
