Admire Cork's landmarks

As a prosperous city that was fought over between the Irish and English in the Middle Ages, Cork is home to a remarkable historical heritage. St Finbarr's Cathedral, with its neo-Gothic architecture, is also famous for its gardens. The centuries-old Black Rock Castle now houses an interactive museum and is dedicated to the exploration of space. Five miles from Cork, Blarney Castle seems to be the stuff of Irish legend. The University of Cork has some of the finest buildings in the country and is also worth a visit.

Visit a whiskey distillery

The Midleton distillery, the largest distillery in Ireland, produces Jameson, Redbreast and Paddy. A guided tour reveals all the secrets of the distillation process which gives life to this amber drink appreciated by amateurs all over the world. The tour concludes with a tasting session (in moderation), for an experience that is as much about sightseeing as it is about taste.

Share a pint in an Irish pub

Pubs are part of Ireland's cultural heritage. You can enjoy a pint of Guinness or any other Irish beer (in moderation) while listening to traditional music or watching a local or national rugby match. Fans of Jeff Buckley will certainly want to go to the Sin-é, a pub that once played the notes of the famous musician during the recording of a legendary live show.

Discover the local gastronomy

The stalls of the English Market, one of the oldest covered markets in Europe, are full of local delicacies. Farmhouse cheeses, cured meats, buttered eggs and other Irish culinary specialities invite you to try many new tasting experiences. How about Drisheen, a type of black pudding, or brown bread, a sweet bread with butter?

Sometimes referred to as the cultural capital of Ireland, Cork is renowned for its cultural life. Many festivals take place here throughout the year. Fly to Cork for the Cork Harbour Festival, the International Choral Festival or the Cork International Film Festival, and enjoy performances, plays and concerts at the city's many venues.
