Fly away for an unforgettable St. Patrick’s Day

History, destinations and getaway ideas to celebrate in green

Saint-Patrick

History of St. Patrick’s Day

Every March, the world turns green to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. And yet, behind the lively parades, clovers and lively music, hides a much older and surprisingly nuanced story.

Born in Great Britain in the 5th century, Patrick is kidnapped as a teenager then taken to Ireland as a slave. This is where it all begins: the land that deprived him of freedom will eventually become the one to which he dedicates his life. After having escaped, he returns there voluntarily, driven by a deep conviction. Over the years, he criss-crosses the island, teaches, federates and becomes an essential figure of Irish identity.

The feast of 17 March is first a spiritual celebration, before becoming what it is today: a global festive event, where mingle Celtic traditions, friendliness and a simple desire to share a warm moment.
