Lyon-Saint Exupéry is one of the rare European airport hubs to offer very easy access thanks to the efficiency of its interconnection network. Aéroports de Lyon puts intermodality at the heart of its development priorities. Its transportation offering continues to expand, in particular with the high-speed Rhônexpress line that brings the city to within less than 30 minutes of the airport, or the Carex project, a high-speed freight line.

High-speed Lyon-Airport Rhônexpress line

Objectives
→ Offer a fast and reliable connection between downtown Lyon and Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport.
Project
→ Build a tramway-train line between the Lyon Part-Dieu train station and the airport, with 2 intermediate stops east of Lyon
Preliminary timeline : completion August 2010
Cost of operation : €120 million (Public/third-party private investment: Rhone General Council and the company Rhônexpress)
Key figures :
• Less than 30 minutes guaranteed
• Speed : 100 km/h
• 1 million passengers transported in 2011, 3 million by 2020

Contournement Ferroviaire Agglomération Lyonnaise (CFAL)

Objectives
→ The CFAL project must give the Lyon railway junction a new freight train capacity.
It will allow traveller service to Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to be strengthened with TER (Regional Express Train) services.

→ Connect Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to TER network
Preliminary timeline : horizon 2020
Cost of operation : €76 million for traveller connection to Lyon-Saint Exupéry (public investment)

CAREX

Objectives
→ Connect Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to European airport hubs (London, Amsterdam, Liège, Paris and Cologne for the first phase) for freight via the high-speed line network.
Project
→ Create a CAREX freight station at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport
Preliminary Timeline : horizon 2015
Cost of operation : €50 million for infrastructures planned at airport (public/private investment : Lyon CAREX)

Ligne LGV LYON-TURIN

Objectives
→ Connect Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to the new Lyon-Turin LGV line, the key link of “Corridor no. 5”, on the east-west line that will connect Lisbon and Kiev (passengers and freight)

→ Connect Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to the Lyon-Turin LGV line

LGV LINE RHIN-RHONE

Objectives
→ Bring Germany and the cities of Eastern France to the gates of the airport within 15 years with very attractive travel times (first phase: Rhine-Rhone connection, eastern branch)

→ Second phase: connect Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport to Rhine-Rhone LGV line, south branch
